Cultural Organizing Projects

I have cofounded several impactful projects, including non-profits and social enterprises that center culture building for Black communities. I leverage design and culture to make space and systems for Black folks to see themselves, manifest new possibilities and thrive. I consider Cultural Organizing an artistic medium. It is how I take the concepts I explore in my fine art practice and apply them in community. Praxis. While not currently involved with every project below, iā€™m proud to have helped create them and each continues to grow and take new forms.

 

Tall Grass Food Box

Tall Grass Food Box is a bi-weekly CSA that sources produce from NC Black farmers. TGFB also collaborates with community based organizations to get local Black produce to food-insecure families throughout the Triangle area.

Black Farmers Market

The Black Farmers Market is a bazaar style marketplace that makes make space for Black businesses as well as Black Farmers to sell their produce and wares in Durham and Raleigh, NC.

Black August in the Park

Black August in the Park is an annual festival weekend that Black folks around the commemoration of the Black August tradition and its principles. While I was affiliated, we saw attendance grow 1,200-10,000+. I led the create direction and space-making and coordination of space-making for partner social justice org.

Open Stu

Open Stu is a collaborative project between myself and Marcella Camara. We gather creatives from around the Triangle to have their portrait taken, build community and document this moment in the creative history of our region.
